Using social media for my Personal Learning Network:     I created both a Pinterest and X account to expand my PLN on social media. I used Pinterest to create a board with what my dream classroom would look like: minimalist, with beige toned walls, and a few plants to give it a more personal twist. I would like to have a lot of natural light in my classroom, as I believe it would give it a more "natural" essence to it. For me, staying connected with the outdoors is essential for wellbeing, and I would like to reflect that in my future classroom environment. I have interacted with several educators on X by following them and liking their content. They are insightful and inspiring to me.   On student privacy when using online platforms:      As educators, we ensure the confidentiality of our students’ information: academic performance, personal details, accommodations, etc. But, to what extent do we ensure our students’ data is being protected online? When introducing a new platform to the classroom, we must not only investigate its instructional value, but also its privacy guidelines and measures to protect our students when navigating the web. Additionally, it is imperative that both the teacher and student are aware on how to keep personal information private. A popular example is Quizlet: a study tool that allows you to create flashcard sets and publish them either privately or publicly on a profile.     On Using MS Word as a Student: In my K-12 experience, we did not utilize the Microsoft tools and used Google instead. Now in college, we have access to all Microsoft apps, which I think are quite useful and accessible. It was slightly hard to adapt to the change as I transitioned from one word processing software to another, yet I find it to be quite good. Humans are creatures of habit, so I personally prefer the comfort of Google Docs and how familiar it is, but I can also appreciate Word. As an aspiring teacher taking EME2040, I hope to learn to use technology effectively to provide high quality instruction to my future students. I have seen throughout my high school years how important technology is in education; every single day we use devices such as laptops or smartboards, and software like Microsoft or Google Classroom. Overall, it is completely integrated into the classroom, so learning how to use it effectively is essential to carry out the job well. Lastly, I would like to learn how to ensure that technology enables and aids learning, and not hinder it.
