On Using MS Word as a Student:
In my K-12 experience, we did not utilize the Microsoft tools and used Google instead. Now in college, we have access to all Microsoft apps, which I think are quite useful and accessible. It was slightly hard to adapt to the change as I transitioned from one word processing software to another, yet I find it to be quite good. Humans are creatures of habit, so I personally prefer the comfort of Google Docs and how familiar it is, but I can also appreciate Word. In a way, it is the blueprint to all other word processing softwares.
On ISTE Standards:
Out of all the ISTE standards we looked at in class, the one that stood out the most was 2.1.c Keep Current on Research (for teachers). Besides wanting to become an educator, I desire to be involved in research on how to optimize learning in the classroom, therefore, this standard speaks to me on a greater level. Technology plays an important role in not only the topic of research, but also the execution of said research. Essentially, technology is both subject to and an aid to research better education practices. Additionally, teachers can execute this standard with technology: getting involved in the education community through social media, reading online articles, etc.
On the "digital native"/"digital immigrant" labels:
Those who were born into a digital age and readily accessible technology since a young age are considered to be "digital natives". They have a greater fluency in using digital platforms and devices. In contrast to them, there are "digital immigrants" who are less dextrous when using these devices due to them being introduced to technology at a later age. In my personal experience, I did see a gap in knowledge between my older teachers and me. Sometimes, they would seek help from us, the students, in how to use digital platforms or devices. Definitely, there was an impact due to the time wasted in them figuring out how to use their tech. Some of the differences I anticipate between my future students and me is the relationship between technology and me, not so much the ability to use it. I believe that teens in the future will have technology play a larger part of their lives than now.
