Blog Journal #7

While exploring the Leon County school pages, I came across a teacher's page that I liked: Ms. Geiger's Class Page.  She features information about her office hours, school email, and Remind; as well as other resources for her three classes: AP Government, AP Macroeconomics, and Humanities.  Resources include Quizlets, YouTube videos, articles, and questions based on the readings.  Looking at other teachers' pages, I noticed that there are plenty who do not feature content or assignments, but instead use the page to simply display their contact information and share a little bit about themselves.  In my opinion, it is more useful for students to have access to assignments and content, but I understand that they probably already use a Learning Management System like Canvas, or Google Classroom and it would be redundant to update two sites simultaneously.

In the future, I envision myself using a variety of technology to accomplish my responsibilities and enhance my instruction.  For example, the use of a Learning Management System (although it will most likely be provided by the school) to upload assignments and grades, Generative AI to elevate my lesson plans, interactive websites to use with my students, Canva to design my presentation slides, and any new technology that I find useful in the future.  Ultimately, technology is such a valuable addition to educational practice, it would be ineffective to not include it.

Reflecting on our latest Assignment, I have realized that Generative AI can effectively support lesson planning as a whole.  Sometimes, there is a rejection of AI in the educational sphere (I also feel like this sometimes), but in this case, I believe AI has the potential to elevate a lesson plan in a way teachers sometimes do not have the time to think about.  When I made my lesson plan, Gemini created an intricate plan based on very basic guidelines, indicating that once I become more experienced and have a more specific plan in mind for my lessons, Generative AI will only be more useful.  Regardless, human intervention is necessary for proofreading, and making sure that the lesson is relevant and effective.  In order to make AI as useful as possible, human proofreading is essential, which is the main takeaway from this assignment.  A good lesson plan tailors to the learning needs of students, the instructional approach of the teacher, and the content that is going to be used, hence the necessity for human proofreading.  Without it, the lesson plan will lack the "human" component that makes lessons effective, meaningful and engaging.  To complete this assignment, we utilized the Canvas group tool, which I am pleased with, except for the Design Tool.  It is not very intuitive, and since I was not familiar with it, I was not able to design it the way that I would have preferred.  Next time I will be more deft when using it.
