So far, blogging has been both entertaining and a good writing exercise.  I like the platform it provides to speak about my current assignments in this class and education in general. There have been many opportunities for me to display my opinion on here.  Additionally, it creates a space for me to demonstrate to others the kind of professional I aspire to be, which is useful for the future.  The only thing I dislike about blogging is the exposure.  It contradicts what I was saying earlier about creating a brand for myself, and barely nobody is reading this blog, yet I still prefer keeping things more private.  So far, I have learned how to use Blogger and all of its features to add external links to my blog, create an aesthetically-pleasing design for it, and many more functions.      On AI and Education: This is a touchy subject for both teachers and students, as it holds a negative connotation regarding academic integrity....

Using social media for my Personal Learning Network:     I created both a Pinterest and X account to expand my PLN on social media. I used Pinterest to create a board with what my dream classroom would look like: minimalist, with beige toned walls, and a few plants to give it a more personal twist. I would like to have a lot of natural light in my classroom, as I believe it would give it a more "natural" essence to it. For me, staying connected with the outdoors is essential for wellbeing, and I would like to reflect that in my future classroom environment. I have interacted with several educators on X by following them and liking their content. They are insightful and inspiring to me. In the future, I will most likely reach out to them for advice to improve my practice. The digital divide:      I attended an Apple Certified High School, which provided both students and teachers their own personal devices to use. They prioritized the use of technology in the cla...

On student privacy when using online platforms:      As educators, we ensure the confidentiality of our students’ information: academic performance, personal details, accommodations, etc. But, to what extent do we ensure our students’ data is being protected online? When introducing a new platform to the classroom, we must not only investigate its instructional value, but also its privacy guidelines and measures to protect our students when navigating the web. Additionally, it is imperative that both the teacher and student are aware on how to keep personal information private. A popular example is Quizlet: a study tool that allows you to create flashcard sets and publish them either privately or publicly on a profile. Many times, students use their full names as handles for these accounts, upload a profile picture, and link their profiles to their school’s page so that they can find their classmates’ flashcards sets. Although this is not available through a quick ...

On Using MS Word as a Student: In my K-12 experience, we did not utilize the Microsoft tools and used Google instead. Now in college, we have access to all Microsoft apps, which I think are quite useful and accessible. It was slightly hard to adapt to the change as I transitioned from one word processing software to another, yet I find it to be quite good. Humans are creatures of habit, so I personally prefer the comfort of Google Docs and how familiar it is, but I can also appreciate Word. In a way, it is the blueprint to all other word processing softwares.     On ISTE Standards: Out of all the ISTE standards we looked at in class, the one that stood out the most was 2.1.c Keep Current on Research (for teachers). Besides wanting to become an educator, I desire to be involved in research on how to optimize learning in the classroom, therefore, this standard speaks to me on a greater level. Technology plays an important role in not only the topic of research, bu...

As an aspiring teacher taking EME2040, I hope to learn to use technology effectively to provide high quality instruction to my future students. I have seen throughout my high school years how important technology is in education; every single day we use devices such as laptops or smartboards, and software like Microsoft or Google Classroom. Overall, it is completely integrated into the classroom, so learning how to use it effectively is essential to carry out the job well. Lastly, I would like to learn how to ensure that technology enables and aids learning, and not hinder it. It is important to keep in mind that technology can be a distraction for both students and teachers, so learning certain strategies to keep students engaged is essential. I attended a certified "Apple School" before coming to college, so technology was omnipresent in my educational environment. All of our assignments were completed on our personal iPads, and teachers were encouraged to keep their classr...
